The World's Largest Crystals
World's largest quartz crystal cluster
World's largest quartz crystal cluster on display. Crystal gallery, Swakopmund, Namibia. The world's largest quartz crystal cluster was discovered in 1985 at the Otjua mine near Karibib, Namibia. This monumental cluster weighs approximately 14,100 kg and stands about 3 meters wide and 3 meters high. Its excavation was a significant endeavor, taking around three years to complete, due to its size and the depth at which it was found—45 meters deep in a cave.
This cluster is now displayed at the Crystal Gallery in Swakopmund, Namibia, where it serves as a testament to the geological wonders of the region. The crystals within this cluster are noted for their clarity and size, with one of the largest single crystals from Otjua being a floater with a length of 2.2 meters and a circumference of 1.8 meters, weighing about 1 ton.
