This Fluorite on Quartz specimen is a beautiful combination of two well-known minerals.
Fluorite (CaF₂)
- Crystal System: Isometric (cubic)
- Hardness: 4 (relatively soft, can be scratched by a knife)
- Lustre: Vitreous (glass-like) to dull
- Color: Often purple, green, blue, yellow, or colorless (varies due to impurities)
- Notable Properties: Fluoresces under UV light, perfect cleavage in four directions
Quartz (SiO₂)
- Crystal System: Hexagonal (trigonal)
- Hardness: 7 (much harder than fluorite)
- Lustre: Vitreous
- Color: Typically clear, white, or smoky
Locality: Le Beix, Bourboule, France
This area is known for producing high-quality fluorite specimens, often associated with quartz.
